BOMARITO WINS BOTH ROUNDS AT MID-OHIO AND REDUCES LEAD TO 14 POINTS

LEXINGTON, OHIO (August 10, 2003) -Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif.,
won Round Ten of the 2003 Formula Ford Zetec Championship part of the Cooper
Tires Championship Series at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Completing the
top-three was Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa. and Westley Barber, of Saffron
Walden, England. Erick Hansen, of Grayslake, Ill., won the American
Continental Championship class.
In hot and humid conditions, the Zetec Championship cars took to the track
following the Champ Car race. On the customary back straight start,
polesitter Andrew Prendeville maintained the lead, ahead of Bomarito and
Tonis Kasemets, who had passed Lawson Aschenbach to move into third. Showing
tremendous pace on cold tires, the lead trio quickly established a sizeable
lead on fourth place. Near the conclusion of the second lap, the first of
three full-course cautions was displayed for Ron Thomas stuck in a gravel
trap. Once Thomas was freed from the trap, racing resumed on lap six, with
A. Prendeville holding off a hard charging Bomarito, in the No. 23 Valley
Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford. At the conclusion of the lap,
Kasemets made contact with the wall, resulting in the second caution period.
With Kasemets out of the race, Pecorari was promoted to third, having passed
Aschenbach earlier in the lap. When racing resumed on lap 11, Barber,
driving the No. 32 Jacuzzi Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, passed his
teammate Aschenbach, who had a bent front-wing from a first lap incident, to
move into fourth. Two laps into green lap racing, A. Prendeville
unexpectedly slowed and pulled off course with broken suspension, giving
Bomarito the lead. Less than a lap later, the final full-course caution was
displayed, when Geoff Fickling and Browning Williams both made contact with
the wall in turn 11. After two laps to clean the debris, the race resumed
with a two-lap sprint to the finish. Pecorari, driving the No. 28 SAI
Hydraulics/Earls Indy/Lucky Design/Arai/Biesse Karts Andersen Walko Racing
Van Diemen Ford, briefly had a look on the restart, but was unable to mount
a serious attempt on Bomarito. Running uncontested the remainder of the
race, Bomarito completed the sweep of the doubleheader at Mid-Ohio, winning
by 1.006 seconds. With the two wins, Bomarito takes home a total of $10,000
in prize money and reduces the lead in the championship to 14 points
(218-204), with two rounds remaining at Road Atlanta in October.
"This has been a dream weekend," said Bomarito, who now has three career
Zetec Championship wins. "Obviously this has been an awesome two weeks for
the PR1 team, with Charlie [Kimball] winning both rounds at Road America and
me winning both here. I think we're in good shape for the final two races
and the fight for the championship."
"It's cool to finally be on the podium," said Pecorari, whose previous best
finish was fourth at Road America. "It's been a tough year after coming from
karts where I won a lot. The priority now is to win the final two races of
the season."
"I think we did as best as we could," said Barber, who continues to the
lead the championship. "I know the team will use the break to give me the
best car possible to win the championship in the final two races."
"It was a really crazy race," said Hansen, who captured his first career
ACC win in June at Mid-Ohio. "After I got the class lead at the start, I
just tried to avoid all the incidents and make it to the finish."
Completing the top-five was James Gue, of Alpheretta, Ga., in the No. 12
Essex Racing GTP Motorsports Van Diemen Ford and Chris Festa, of Atlanta,
Ga., in the No. 19 Care Centric PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford. Both
drivers scored career best finishes.

BOMARITO NARROWS POINT LEAD WITH WIN AT MID-OHIO

LEXINGTON, OHIO (August 9, 2003) -Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif.,
won Round Nine of the 2003 Formula Ford Zetec Championship part of the
Cooper Tires Championship Series at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Completing the top-three was Charlie Kimball, of Camarillo, Calif. and Tonis
Kasemets, of Mundelein, Ill. Ron Thomas, of Galena, Ohio, won the American
Continental Championship class.
On a damp, but drying track and under overcast skies, Bomarito led the
26-car field to the green flag. Going three-abreast down the back straight,
Bomarito maintained the lead, with his PR1 Motorsports teammate moving into
second ahead of Kasemets, in the No. 9 FlexOvit/MK Industries/TMI/Redline
Oil/TEAM Tonis Pabst Racing Racing Services Van Diemen Ford. Working
together, Bomarito and Kimball attempted unsuccessfully to pull away from
Kasemets. On lap five, a full-course caution was displayed, bunching the
field back together. Following four laps under caution, Bomarito got a great
jump on the restart, never being challenged for the lead. While Bomarito and
Kimball, driving the No. 91 Rentvillas.com PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford,
built a gap, third through fifth began running nose to tail. On lap 11,
championship leader Westley Barber passed Lawson Aschenbach for fourth
place. With the race fast nearing its conclusion, both Kasemets and Kimball
slowly began to close on Bomarito, who was battling a stuck throttle cable.
With three laps remaining in the race, the second full-course caution was
displayed, for a car high-sided on the course. Quickly clearing the problem,
racing resumed with a two-lap dash to the checkered flag. Showing the pace
that earned him the pole position, Bomarito, in the No. 23 Valley Financial
PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, ran uncontested to the checkered flag,
winning by 0.386 second. In capturing his second career Zetec Championship
win, Bomarito reduces Barber's championship lead to 12 points (217-205) and
earns $5,000 in prize money.
"I'm so happy to be here," said Bomarito, who captured his other Zetec
Championship win at Lime Rock Park. "The start worked just as I planned,
with Charlie [Kimball] moving in behind me. Early in the race I heard some
noises, which turned out to be the stuck throttle cable, but I kept driving
hoping I could make it to the finish. Hopefully I can repeat the win
tomorrow and leave here with the championship lead."
"It's a lot easier to take finishing second when your teammate wins," said
Kimball, who entered the race having won the previous two rounds. "I tried
to get a run on Jonathan [Bomarito] on the second restart, but it's real
hard to challenge for the lead unless the leader makes a mistake. I think I
have a good car to battle for the win tomorrow."
"It's real difficult to pass here," said Kasemets, who has now finished on
the podium six times at Mid-Ohio. "I never had any real pressure from
behind, so I concentrated on the guys in front of me, but they never made
any mistakes."
"The yellow flags helped me out," said Thomas, who has now won three ACC
races in Zetec Championship competition. "Early in the race I got hit from
behind and spun out. Luckily I was able to work my way back to the class
lead and win again here at Mid-Ohio."
Completing the top-five was Barber, of Saffron Walden, England, in the No.
32 Jacuzzi Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford and Aschenbach, in the No. 2
King Automotive/M&M Welding Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford.

BOMARITO CAPTURES THIRD POLE AT MID-OHIO

LEXINGTON, OHIO (August 8, 2003) -Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif.,
captured the pole for Round Nine of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship at Mid-Ohio. Completing the top-three is Tonis Kasemets, of
Mundelein, Ill., and Charlie Kimball, of Camarillo, Calif. The top ACC
qualifier is Ron Thomas, of Galena, Ohio.
Following an early morning practice session, the Zetec Championship cars
took to the track just after lunch for race one qualifying. In the opening
laps of the 30-minute session, the red flag was displayed stopping
qualifying, when Matthew McDonough made contact with the tire barrier in
turn seven. After a brief delay to retrieve McDonough, the session resumed
under overcast skies. As the spec Avon tires got up to optimal racing
temperatures, the times steadily began to drop. With the increased grip from
the Champ Car practice, the times were soon faster than those posted in
testing and during practice. At the halfway point of the session, Kasemets,
driving the No. 9 FlexOvit/MK Industries/TMI Redline Oil/Team Tonis Pabst
Racing Services Van Diemen Ford, moved to the top of the charts. With just
over 10-minutes remaining in the session, Bomarito, in the No. 23 Valley
Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, bettered Kasemets time by one
tenth of a second to move to the top of the charts. Almost immediately after
Bomarito had posted his fast time, the session was halted for Doug Smith
spinning on course. When qualifying resumed, drivers reported the track had
become quite slick, allowing Kimball, driving the No. 91 Rentvillas.com PR1
Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, to retain third place on the grid. When Kyle
Burts and Andrew Prendeville made contact with the wall in turn 11 late in
the session, the checkered flag was thrown, ending qualifying. With a lap of
1:23.373 (97.449 MPH), Bomarito captures his third career pole position in
the Zetec Championship and gains one point in the Championship standings.
"It was tough with all the red flags," said Bomarito, who is second in the
Zetec Championship. "We were little concerned about the weather, so I made
sure I put a quick lap in as soon as possible. I think we still have a
little left for the race."
"We made some changes that worked," said Kasemets, who has won at Mid-Ohio
three times. "I think we have a good car for the conditions as they develop.
I hope I can continue my winning streak here at Mid-Ohio."
"We got a ways to go," said Kimball, who won the previous two rounds at
Road America. "I'm going to look at Jonathan's [Bomarito] data and see if we
can find some more time. I'm confident the PR1 crew will give me a great car
for the race"
"The car felt really good," said Thomas, who has three career races in the
Zetec Champions. "I'm a rhythm driver, so I expect without the reds I can go
quicker."
Completing the top-five is Lawson Aschenbach, of Gaithersburg, Md., in the
No. 2 King Automotive/M&M Welding Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford and
Westley Barber, of Saffron Walden, England, driving the No. 32 Jacuzzi Cape
Motorsports Van Diemen Ford.

KIMBALL COMPLETES SWEEP AT ROAD AMERICA

ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 3, 2003) -Charlie Kimball, of Camarillo, Calif.,
won Round Eight of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship at Road
America. Completing the top-three was Lawson Aschenbach, of Gaithersburg,
Md. and Westley Barber, of Saffron Walden, England. Mike Rodney, of
Lafayette, Colo., won the American Continental Championship class.
Under partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, Barber led the field to
the green flag. Going side-by-side down the front straight, Barber
maintained the lead ahead of Kimball and Jonathan Bomarito. As the leaders
completed the lap, several incidents occurred throughout the course,
eliminating four cars from the race. With the safety crews working under
localized yellow flags, the top-five ran nose-to-tail in the opening laps.
On lap three, Kimball and Bomarito got a good draft on the straight and were
able to pass Barber. Working together, the PR1 Motorsports teammates began
to build a gap, as a great battle developed for third between Barber, Andrew
Prendeville and Aschenbach. Following four consistent fast laps, Bomarito
made a small error, which allowed both Barber and Aschenbach to get past.
Once past Bomarito, Aschenbach, driving the No. 2 King Automotive/M&M
Welding Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, immediately began to pressure
Barber. Using the draft on the long Road America straights, Aschenbach
passed Barber, in the No. 32 Jacuzzi Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, on
lap nine and began to close on Kimball. Despite steadily closing the gap,
Aschenbach was never able to challenge for the lead, as Kimball captured his
fourth career Zetec Championship win by 4.767 seconds. By winning both
rounds of the Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America doubleheader,
Kimball, driving the No. 91 Rentvillas.com PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford,
takes home $10,000 in prize money.
"We're going to celebrate tonight," said Kimball, who is now third in the
championship. "At the start I just tried to settle into a rhythm. Once I got
into the lead I ran the most consistent laps I've run all weekend and built
a gap. After two wins here, I'm really looking forward to Mid-Ohio next
weekend."
"I had to pass a lot of people," said Aschenbach, who is fourth in the
championship. "After yesterday's race and starting eighth, I'll take a
second place finish."
"I'm happy with third," said Barber, who continues to lead the Zetec
Championship. "Battling for position on every lap made for a long race."
"What a terrific weekend," said Rodney, who won both ACC races at Road
America. "I went over a second a lap quicker today, but still had a great
battle for the lead all race long with Kyle [Burts]."
Completing the top-five was Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif., in the No. 23
Valley Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford and Prendeville, of
Morristown, N.J., driving the No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko Racing Van

KIMBALL CAPTURES CONVINICING WIN AT ROAD AMERICA

ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 2, 2003) -Charlie Kimball, of Camarillo,
Calif., won Round Seven of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship at
Road America. Completing the top-three was Tonis Kasemets, of Mundelein,
Ill. and Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif. Mike Rodney, of Lafayette,
Colo., won the American Continental Championship class.
After a one-year hiatus, 27 Zetec Championship cars took the green at Road
America. Going three-wide down the front straight, polesitter Westley Barber
led the field into turn one. While the leaders were able to get through the
tough corner cleanly, with Kimball in the lead, three cars were involved in
an incident behind them, with two ending up in the gravel trap. While safety
crews attended the incident, Andy Brumbaugh passed Barber and Kimball for
the lead in turn five. As the leaders entered the back half of the course it
began to rain. The suddenly slick conditions caused Brumbaugh to spin in
turn eight. While Barber avoided the incident, he fell back, allowing
Kimball to take the lead. Having moved up through the field in the opening
lap, Bomarito followed Kimball through the incident moving into second
place, with Kasemets close behind. Unable to clear the cars off the course
in turn one, a full-course caution was displayed at the end of the first
lap. On the lap four restart, Kimball maintained the lead, while Bomarito,
in the No. 23 Valley Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, battled
Kasemets for position. Entering turn five, Kasemets got to the inside of
Bomarito, taking second place. Once past Bomarito, Kasemets set about
chasing down Kimball. As the race progressed, Kimball and Kasemets began
posting faster laps than in qualifying, with Kasemets slowly closing the
gap. On the penultimate lap, Kasemets, driving the No. 9
FlexOvit/MKIndustries/TMI Pabst Racing Services Van Diemen Ford, got an
excellent draft on Kimball along the front straight. Pulling alongside
Kasemets attempted to pass for the lead, but was unable to take the position
from Kimball. For the remainder of the lap Kasemets repeatedly challenged
Kimball, in the No. 91 Rentvillas.com PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, until
turn eight when Kasemets had a brief off-course excursion. At the checkered
flag, Kimball had captured his third career Zetec Championship win by 2.714
seconds. Kimball previously won the inaugural opening two rounds of the
Zetec West Championship.
"It's great to beat Tonis [Kasemets] in one-on-one battle like that," said
Kimball, who moves into fourth in the championship after the win. "I knew if
I got a solid start I had a chance at the lead. When Andy [Brumbaugh] spun
in the rain, I was fortunate to keep the car on the track. Late in the race
I saw Tonis catching me, which was a scary sight, but I just tried to stay
focused. I can't wait for race two on Sunday."
"After a disasterous qualifying it was nice to finish on the podium," said
Kasemets, who has now finished on the podium in three consecutive races. "My
crew kept yelling on the radio for me to push, unfortunately I went a little
to deep there at the end of the race."
"I didn't expect to be in second at the end of the opening lap," said
Bomarito, who remains second in the championship after Round Seven. "Going
into the race I was confident I had the car to move up. Getting a good start
and making the most of my opportunities things worked out. I will be nice to
start up front tomorrow."
"I'm thrilled to death," said Rodney, who captures his first ACC win in his
first carrer Zetec Championship start. "I spun on the first lap and fell
back to last. After working my way back into the fight for the lead, I went
side-by-side with the ACC leader in last corner, taking the win by a nose
length."
Completing the top-five was Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., in the No. 28 SAI
Hydraulics/Earls Indy/Lucky Design/Arai/Biesse Karts Andersen Walko Racing
Van Diemen Ford and James Gue, of Alpharetta, Ga., in No. 12 Essex Racing
GTP Motorsports Van Diemen Ford.

BARBER CONTINUES POLE STREAK AT ROAD AMERICA

ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 2, 2003) -Westley Barber, of Saffron, England,
captured the pole for Round Eight of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship at Road America. Completing the top-three is Charlie Kimball,
of Camarillo, Calif., and Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif. The top ACC
qualifier is Mike Rodney, of Lafayette, Colo.
Qualifying for race two of the Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America
commenced under ideal early morning conditions. With a dry track and the
increased rubber from Champ Car qualifying on Friday, drivers immediately
began posting fast lap times. Continuing where he left off on Friday, Barber
immediately jumped to the top of the speed charts at the start of
qualifying. Responding to the challenge, Kimball, driving the No. 91
Rentvillas.com PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, began posting times just
marginally slower than Barber. As the session progressed, the times steadily
dropped, with the top-five changing from lap to lap. By the midway point of
the 30-minute session, Barber and Kimball remained first and second, with
James Gue posting the third fastest time. Unlike most sessions, where
drivers pit for changes during qualifying, the leaders elected to stay out
on Saturday, due to the time that would be lost in the very long Road
America pitlane. Using a steadily improving car, Bomarito, in the No. 23
Valley Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, moved into third place
late in the session. With less than five minutes remaining in qualifying,
the session was halted, when Doug Prendeville crashed into the turn one
wall. Unable to clear the debris in the time remaining, the session was
checkered, giving Barber the pole position. Driving the No. 32 Jacuzzi Cape
Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, Barber captured his sixth pole of the season
with a lap of 2:12.974 (108.291 MPH), which bettered the lap record he set
during Friday qualifying.
"The car actually wasn't as good as yesterday," said Barber, who has
captured the pole for six of the eight races thus far in 2003. "I kept
pushing all session long and the team did a great job letting me know what I
needed to do. I'm really looking forward to the race."
"Unfortunately we went the wrong way in setup changes," said Kimball, who
has three consecutive front-row starts. "The I think I have car to run with
Westley [Barber] in the race, so it should be fun and having my teammates
up-front with me should help."
"Unlike yesterday I was able to stay out the whole session and get some
quick times in at the end," said Bomarito, who suffered a mechanical failure
late in qualifying for race one. "PR1 as usual gave me a great car, so I'm
can't wait for the races to start."
"The track had a lot more grip today," said Rodney, who captured the ACC
pole for race one on Friday. "Racing in the Zetec Championship is a nice
step up from the club racing I usual do."
Completing the top-five is Chris Festa, of Atlanta, Ga., in the No. 19 Care
Centric PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford and Andrew Prendeville, of
Morristown, N.J., in the No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko Racing Van
Diemen Ford.

BARBER CAPTURES THIRD CONSECUTIVE POLE AT ROAD AMERICA

ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 1, 2003) -Westley Barber, of Saffron, England,
captured the pole for Round Seven of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship at Road America. Completing the top-three is Charlie Kimball,
of Camarillo, Calif., and Andy Brumbaugh, of Blythewood, S.C. The top ACC
qualifier is Mike Rodney, of Lafayette, Colo.
Starting early Friday morning, qualifying for race one of the Mario
Andretti Grand Prix at Road America doubleheader got underway in tricky
conditions. As the cars rolled on to pitlane, the track was still damp from
heavy rain showers overnight. Having only run testing sessions on Thursday
prior to qualifying, a number of drivers used the early stages of the
30-minute session to familiarize themselves with the track. As the session
progressed, the track steadily got drier and times steadily dropped, with
several drivers posting times in the 2:14 range. Just after the midway
point, the session was briefly halted when a driver went-off course in turn
three. After a brief stoppage, qualifying resumed with numerous drivers
attacking the course. After running fourth or fifth fastest most of the
session, Barber jumped to the top of the charts at the 25-minute mark,
driving the No. 32 Jacuzzi Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford. While giving
Barber a good draft on his fast lap, Kimball, in the No. 91 Rentvillas.com
PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, posted his fastest lap of the session, to
move into second position. With several drivers battling for the final
top-three starting position, Brumbaugh, driving the No. 86 Andy LLC/Corby
Concepts Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, posted his fastest lap of the
session on the final lap, to capture the position. Barber's pole position
time of 2:13.916 (107.530 MPH) sets a new lap record and gives the young
English driver his fifth pole of 2003 and third in a row.
"It's was hard work out there," said Barber, who currently leads the
Championship by 41 points. "After testing we were a little behind, so we
made a bunch of changes last night. The team did a great job and I got a bit
of luck which helps on a long track like Road America."
"I'm ready to go racing," said Kimball who has won previously at Road
America in the June Sprints. "I knew Westley [Barber] had a quick lap, as we
were running together and hoped to benefit from a draft, but things didn't
work out unfortunately. It's going to be an interesting race."
"It's nice to start up front," said Brumbaugh, who has finished in the
top-10 the past four races. "Yesterday was difficult, but we got quicker
each session out and were able to continue to get better in qualifying.
Hopefully we can put the car on the front-row in qualifying for race two and
run a great race."
"I was able to post a good lap right at the end of qualifying," said
Rodney, who is making his Zetec Championship debut at Road America. "I didn'
t run yesterday, so it took a while for me to get comfortable."
Completing the top-five is Tonis Kasemets, of Mundelein, Ill., in the No. 9
FlexOvit/MK Industries/TMI Pabst Racing Services Van Diemen Ford and Andrew
Prendeville, of Morristown, N.J., in the No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko
Racing Van Diemen Ford.

KASEMETS AND BARBER SPLIT WINS AT MID-OHIO

LEXINGTON, OHIO (June 29, 2003) -Tonis Kasemets, of Mundelein, Ill. and
Westley Barber, of Saffron, England, captured the wins for Rounds Five and
Six of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship at the Mid-Ohio Sports
Car Course. Completing the top-three in Round Five was Barber and Jonathan
Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif. Completing the top-three in Round Six was
Charlie Kimball, of Camarillo, Calif. and Kasemets. Erick Hansen, of
Grayslake, Ill. and Chris Dona, of Sandown, N.H., won the ACC class.
Under overcast skies and threat of rain, Barber led the field to the green
early Sunday morning for race one of the doubleheader. At the start Barber,
driving the No. 32 Jacuzzi Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, maintained the
lead ahead of Kasemets and Bomarito. Following a crash on the opening lap,
involving the ACC polesitter Chris Dona, the full-course caution was
displayed. On the lap five restart, Barber got a great jump, keeping the
lead into turn one. With the drivers settling into a good race pace, the
leaders began to build gaps between one another. By the midway point of the
20-lap race, Barber had built a lead of over one second on Kasemets, in the
No. 9 FlexOvit/MKIndustries/TMI Pabst Racing Services Van Diemen Ford. As
the second half of the race progressed both Kasemets and Bomarito, driving
the No. 23 Valley Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, began to close
on Barber. Continuing to close the gap, Kasemets began the last lap right
behind Barber. Exiting the Keyhole turn, Kasemets got a good draft and
pulled alongside Barber on the back straight. Barber and Kasemets entered
the esses side-by-side, with Kasemets taking the lead at the exit of the
turn. For the remainder of the lap Barber pressured Kasemets, but was unable
to find a way past, giving Kasemets the win by 0.552 second. The win is
Kasemets fifth career win in the Zetec Championship and third at Mid-Ohio.
Commencing in the late afternoon, Barber led the 24-car field to the green
flag for race two under sunny skies. As in race one, Barber held the lead
into the esses. Pushing the car to the limits, Barber quickly began to build
a sizeable lead, while Kasemets battled Kimball for second place. At the
conclusion of the opening lap, Kasemets had passed Kimball. Setting a
blistering pace the top-three began to spread out, ahead of a great battle
for fourth place. On lap seven, the field was bunched back together when a
full-course caution was displayed for Andrew Prendeville spinning off-course
in turn one. On the ensuing restart, Lawson Aschenbach, who had moved into
fourth, attempted to pass Kimball in turn one, while Barber maintained the
lead. Driving the No. 91 Rentvillas.com PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford,
Kimball showed great car control maintaining the position. The top-three
remained unchanged until the penultimate lap, when the leaders encountered a
very slow back marker. While Barber made it past unscathed, Kasemets got
held up, allowing Kimball to move into second place. On the final lap
Kimball closed on Barber, but at the checkered flag, Barber had won his
third race of the season by 0.171 second.
"It's like a movie," said Kasemets, who is now third in the championship
standings. "I never really believed you could make the pass for the win on
the last lap. In the second race it was balls out from the green flag and I
just got caught out by a lapped car late in the race."
"I really pushed at the start," said Barber, who continues to lead the
championship by 41 points. "I was gutted after race one, so I made sure it
wasn't going to happen again. It got a little crazy on the last lap again,
but luckily things worked out."
"I just keep learning," said Kimball, who has two podium finishes. "The car
got better every session on track and I think I'll be in good position when
we come back to Mid-Ohio in August."
"The car took a while to come in," said Bomarito, who is second in the
championship. "I got into a pretty good rhythm, but I still needed a little
more to challenge for the win."
"I'm very happy about winning my first ACC race," said Hansen. "I got a
good start and was able to run a fast race pace."
"It was a lot more work than we wanted," said Dona, who leads the ACC
standings. "The plan was to win and build my championship and thanks to my
dad we were able to do that after a rough first race."
Completing the top-five in Round Five was A. Prendeville, of Morristown,
N.J., driving the No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford
and Andy Brumbaugh, of Blythewood, S.C., in the No. 86 Andy LLC/Corby
Concepts Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford. Completing the top-five in Round
Six was Aschenbach, of Gaithersburg, Md., in the No. 2 King Automotive/M&M
Welding Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford and Bomarito.

BARBER SWEEPS POLES AT MID-OHIO

LEXINGTON, OHIO (June 28, 2003) -Westley Barber, of Saffron, England,
captured the pole for Rounds Five and Six of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000
Zetec Championship at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Completing the
top-three for Round Five is Tonis Kasemets, of Mundelein, Ill. and Jonathan
Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif. Completing the top-three for Round Six is
Charlie Kimball, of Camarillo, Calif. and Kasemets. The top ACC qualifier
for both rounds is Chris Dona, of Sandown, N.H.
In ideal sunny conditions, qualifying for race one of the Mid-Ohio Road
Racing Classic got underway-early Saturday morning. With the drivers having
had three test sessions and two practices prior to qualifying, the cars got
up to speed very quickly. Early in the 25-minute session Andy Brumbaugh was
quickest, with several drivers posting very similar times. Driving the No.
32 Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, Barber lead the field at the midway
point, with Bomarito a mere tenth of a second slower. As the session
progressed, several cars pitted to make minor setup changes, however
Bomarito stayed on track. At the 20-minute mark the strategy looked to have
paid off, with Bomarito posting the fastest time, in his No. 23 Valley
Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford. Benefiting from the changes made
to his car, Barber began to challenge Bomarito's time late in the session.
In the closing minutes, Barber retook the pole position with a lap of
1:23.043 (97.886 MPH), while Kasemets, driving the No. 9
FlexOvit/MKIndustries/TMI Pabst Racing Services Van Diemen Ford, posted his
fastest lap, capturing a front-row.
Following a brief break, qualifying for race two began just prior to the
lunch break. As in the first qualifying session, the drivers used the
opening laps to scrub in their sticker tires. Resuming where he left off,
Barber jumped to the top of the charts early in the session. After
challenging Barber early on, Kasemets took over the top spot at the halfway
point of the 20-minute session. With the drivers able to find gaps in
traffic, the times steadily fell as the session progressed. In the closing
minutes of qualifying, Kimball posted a fast lap, to move his No. 91
Rentvillas.com PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford to the provisional pole. On
the final lap of qualifying, Barber posted a lap of 1:23.078 (97.845 MPH) to
retake the pole position. In sweeping both pole positions, Barber now has
four poles in six races.
"I'm very pleased about capturing both poles," said Barber, who currently
leads the Championship. "In the first session the car was a little difficult
to drive, but I came in and made a change, which really worked. In the
second qualifying everyone got quicker, but I was able to post a good lap at
the end. It's good to get back on track and hopefully things will continue
in the races tomorrow."
"The car feels really good," said Kasemets, who has won twice previously at
Mid-Ohio. "In the first qualifying I was not really on top of my game and
made a few mistakes in traffic. In the second session I should have come in
and cooled the tires. With it being so hard to pass here, I'll be looking to
capitalize on any opportunities that come up."
"I was able to work traffic really well," said Kimball, who won both rounds
of the West Coast Zetec Championship. "I've got a good car to race with and
I'm always learning out there."
"The car came in a little early," said Bomarito, who is second in the
championship. "I though I had more in the car, so I stayed out, which didn't
work. We'll keep working towards a better car for the race."
"It's great to take both poles in the ACC," said Dona, who leads the
American Continental Class championship. "I'm expecting a very exciting
race."
Completing the top-five in qualifying for race one is Brumbaugh, of
Blythewood, S.C., in the No. 86 Andy LLC/Corby Concepts Cape Motorsports
Ford. In qualifying for race two, Craig Baltzer, of Bettendorf, Iowa,
completes the top-five, driving the No. 8 Sparco/Lakefront
Technologies/Decal Works JDC Motorsports Van Diemen Ford.

ASCHENBACH CAPTURES WIN AT LIME ROCK IN THE RAIN

LAKEVILLE, CONN. (May 26, 2003) -Lawson Aschenbach, of Gaithersburg, Md.,
won Round Four of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship at Lime
Rock Park. Completing the top-three was Westley Barber, of Saffron Walden,
England and Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif. Douglas Kniffin, of
Syosset, N.Y., won the American Continental Championship class.
Following the standard day off at Lime Rock, the Zetec Championship
returned to the track Monday, to complete the Memorial Day weekend
doubleheader. Having captured the pole position earlier in the day on a very
wet track, Aschenbach led the field to the green in heavy rain. At the
start, the field went three-wide into turn one, with Aschenbach holding the
lead. With clear visibility, Aschenbach, driving the No. 2 King
Automotive/M&M Welding Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, quickly set about
building his lead over Barber and Craig Baltzer. Following three laps of
green flag racing, a full-course was displayed for Doug Prendeville spinning
on course. On the lap 7 restart, Aschenbach got a great jump maintaining his
lead, while the rest of the drivers dealt with extremely reduced visibility.
Driving in the difficult condition, the leaders remained unchanged until the
halfway point of the race, when Baltzer hit the tire wall, bringing out the
second full-course caution of the race. On the restart, two cars went
off-course, forcing another full-course caution. On the final restart of the
race, Barber, racing the No. 3 Cape Motorsport Van Diemen Ford, pressured
Aschenbach, but was unable to make the pass for the lead. Behind the lead
duo, Bomarito began to close on third place Andrew Prendeville. On the final
lap, A. Prendeville got loose in turn one, allowing Bomarito, in the No. 23
Valley Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, to make the pass. Running
unchallenged at the checkered flag, Aschenbach captured his third career
win, first in 2003, by 9.258 seconds.
"I'm really happy to win my first race of the season," said Aschenbach, who
has won all his races from the pole position. "Being out front certainly
helped, especially on the starts. The guys gave me great car and I'm looking
forward to the next race."
"The only chance I had to pass was on the starts," said Barber, who
maintains the championship lead following the doubleheader. "With the
visibility being so poor, I just focused on keeping the car on track and
scoring points."
"It was a crazy race," said Bomarito, who moves into second in the
championship following the doubleheader. "Given the conditions, I'm
extremely pleased about finishing second and leaving Lime Rock second in the
championship."
"It was just anarchy at the start," said Kniffin. "I spun going down the
hill, but managed to keep it off the guard rail."
Completing the top-five was A. Prendeville, of Morristown, N.J., driving
the No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford and Matthew
McDonough, of West Newbury, Mass., in the No. 6 TASC Technical Services GTP
Engineering Van Diemen Ford, who started 14th.

BOMARITO LEADS FLAG-TO-FLAG TO CAPTURE FIRST CAREER WIN AT LIME ROCK

LAKEVILLE, CONN. (May 24, 2003) -Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif.,
won Round Three of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship at Lime
Rock Park. Completing the top-three was Westley Barber, of Saffron Walden,
England and Tonis Kasemets, of Mundelein, Ill. Chris Dona, of
Sandown, N.H., won the American Continental Championship class.
Under overcast skies, 26 Zetec Championship cars took to the demanding
1.53-mile road course for the first race of the Memorial Day weekend
doubleheader. At the start, Bomarito, starting from the pole position,
maintained the lead, as the field went three-abreast into turn one. As the
lap progressed, several cars battled for position, with cars going
side-by-side in many of the corners. Showing the speed he displayed in
qualifying, when he set a new lap record, Bomarito steadily began to build a
lead on second place. As Bomarito, driving the No. 23 Valley Financial PR1
Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, built his lead, second through fourth place ran
nose-to-tail. On lap 10, the field was bunched together, when a full-course
yellow was displayed for Dustin Hodges crashing in West Bend. On the ensuing
restart, Bomarito got a great jump holding the lead in turn one. Behind the
lead trio, Kasemets, racing the No. 9 FlexOvit/MK Industries/TMI Van Diemen
Ford, passed Andrew Prendeville to move into fourth place after setting up
the pass for over a lap. Midway through lap 17, Lawson Aschenbach, who had
been in second place slowed on course, allowing Barber, driving the No. 3
Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, to move into second place. For the next
six laps the top-three remained unchanged, with Bomarito steadily increasing
his lead while dealing with lapped traffic. On lap 24, a full-course caution
was displayed for Bob Wright hitting the tire barrier in turn seven. With
four laps remaining in the race, the field was given the green flag. For the
third time, Bomarito got an excellent jump, using a back maker to extend his
lead. For the remainder of the race Bomarito was unchallenged, capturing his
first career win by 0.898 second.
"It's was a tough race," said Bomarito, who led all 30 laps. "I was able to
get a great jump on all the restarts and lapped traffic seemed to actually
help me. Hopefully we can do the same thing Monday in race two."
"I fought all race long," said Barber, who maintains the championship lead
heading into Round Four. "We made some changes to the car from qualifying
which made it better, but we still need to find a little more."
"My car was very good after the yellows," said Kasemets, who is the active
race win leader, with four career wins. "Starting where I did, I was only
hoping for a good finish."
"I think my experience here really helped," said Dona, who has raced at
Lime Rock numerous times. "I'm getting faster every time I'm in the car and
went over a second faster than I've ever gone here before."
Completing the top-five was Prendeville, of Morristown, N.J., driving the
No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford and Craig
Baltzer, of Bettendorf, Iowa, in the No. 8 Sparco/Lakefront
Technologies/Decal Works/Van Diemen Scholarship JDC Motorsports Van Diemen
Ford, who started eighth.

BOMARITO SETS LAP RECORD TO CAPTURE POLE AT LIME ROCK

LAKEVILLE, CONN. (May 23, 2003) -Jonathan Bomarito, of Monterey, Calif.,
captured the pole for Round Three of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship at Lime Rock Park. Completing the top-three is Lawson
Aschenbach, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Westley Barber, of Saffron Walden,
England. The top ACC qualifier is Chris Dona, of Sandown, N.H.
On a dry track in overcast conditions, the Zetec Championship took to the
Lime Rock road course for the first time since 1994. Early in the 20-minute
session, the cars worked on getting heat in the tires, with times steadily
dropping. By the midway point of the session, Bomarito, driving the No. 23
Valley Financial PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, had moved to the top of
the charts. Soon after Bomarito had posted the fastest time, Aschenbach,
driving the No. 2 King Automotive/M&M Welding Cape Motorsports Van Diemen
Ford, jumped to the top of the charts, with his teammate, Barber, driving
the No. 3 Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, moving into second. As the
session progressed, the trio repeatedly swapped the fastest lap. Late in the
session, Bomarito retook the pole position with a lap faster than the
previous lap record. At the checkered flag, Bomarito had captured the pole
position for Saturday's race one of the doubleheader with a new lap record
of 0:49.810 (110.580 MPH). The pole position is the second of his career in
five starts.
"I'm very surprised I got the pole," said Bomarito, who is second in the
Championship. "The team did a fantastic job giving me car that was
comfortable to drive fast. I think the race will be real exciting."
"A front-row start is good," said Aschenbach. "We still have more in the
car, so I'm looking forward to qualifying for race two."
"Fast tracks like this make for great qualifying," said Barber, who won
both rounds at Sebring International Raceway in March. "If it rains tomorrow
I think we're in good shape, otherwise we need to work a bit harder."
Completing the top-five is Andrew Prendeville, of Morristown, N.J., in the
No. 25 TCW/Valvoline Andersen Walko Van Diemen Ford and Andy Brumbaugh, of

ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP FINISHES EARLY SEASON TESTING

FAIRFIELD, N.J. (May 20, 2002) - The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship
recently completed two-days of early season testing at the Mid-Ohio Sports
Car Course. Taking part in the test were the top teams in the Zetec
Championship, as well as the new Formula SCCA car.

Driving on the 2.258-mile CART configuration, the conditions varied greatly
throughout the test. The test commenced under overcast skies with a light
rain and strong winds. Unable to work on either wet or dry setups on the
damp track, the majority of the teams remained in the garages in the early
stages of the test. As the day progressed, the weather conditions began to
improve, allowing the Zetec Championship drivers to get on course and run
numerous laps. By the early afternoon, the track had dried sufficiently,
that the majority of the cars began to run slick tires for the first time.
Unfortunately, the dry track conditions lasted less than an hour, as it
began to rain heavily. While assorted cars went out in the rain, the first
day of the test was effectively completed.

Unlike the previous day, the second day of testing got underway in ideal dry
and cool conditions. Drivers and teams worked on setups and car balance,
while attempting to post a fast lap. Using the new tire and wing package
implemented for 2003, the cars steadily got faster as the test progressed.
By the late stages of the test, several drivers had posted times within
striking distance of the lap record set in 2002. At the conclusion of the
test, several teams had completed in excess of 200 laps, with no significant
incidents reported.

Throughout the two-day test the Formula SCCA car did numerous laps, with
several drivers having the opportunity to drive. The new car displayed great
torque and acceleration, with a few drivers posting quick times.

The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship returns to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car
Course, June 28-29, as part of the Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic and August
9-10, as part of the CART Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio. The 2003 season resumes,
May 24-26, with Rounds Three & Four, at Lime Rock Park, as part of the
Mohegan Sun Presents The Lime Rock Grand Prix.

KARTING CHAMPIONS WELK AND BALTZER SCORE TOP-10 FINISHES IN FORMULA FORD 2000 ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT

TOPEKA, Kan. (March 20, 2003) – Craig Baltzer, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Steve Welk, of Franklin, Wis., made their Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship debuts March 13-14 at Sebring International Raceway, with both drivers scoring top-10 finishes during the doubleheader weekend.

In Thursday’s season-opening event, Baltzer started 10th in the No. 8 Primus Racing/Sparco/Lakefront Technologies/Decal Works Van Diemen with Welk qualifying 14th in the No. 7 Lakefront Technologies/Sparco/Bell Helmets Van Diemen Scholarship entry. During the opening laps, both drivers were able to gain several positions only to fall back near the end of the 30 minute race, with Baltzer finishing ninth and Welk 11th.

“The biggest problem I had in the race was on the restart,” said Welk, who recorded the race’s second fastest lap. “It was frustrating because I would lose all of the positions I had gained under green. The restarts were insane.”

“Overall the weekend went fairly well, said Baltzer. “I think I’m developing a good relationship with the team and the car was great during the race, unfortunately in qualifying we were a bit off.”

For Round Two, held the next day, the skies opened up on the warm-up lap and the field took the green under very wet conditions. With grip a problem on the wet 3.7 mile circuit, many drivers found themselves losing positions or sliding off course. Thanks to a recent wet weather test with JDC Motorsports, both Welk and Baltzer were able to move from their respective 14th and 16th-place qualifying positions at the start. When the rain turned into a torrential downpour after only three laps, the race was red flagged with Baltzer running sixth and Welk eighth.

With a full schedule of events planned for the remainder of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring weekend, Zetec Championship officials declared the event official, giving the 2002 WKA/SCCA Pro Racing Primus Racing Scholarship Winners three top-10 finishes for the weekend.

“Overall, I’m happy with the weekend,” said Welk. “We missed on the qualifying setup so we were never able to really show the speed in the car.

“We will do some more testing before the next event. I’m also planning on running the first Champ Car Stars of Tomorrow event, so I am definitely keeping myself busy during the break.”

“The second race was really hectic,” said Baltzer. “The track was half wet and half dry and we were running on dry weather tires, so parts of the track were really tricky. I was actually in fifth, working hard on fourth place when the red came out and they reverted to the previous laps scoring.”

The JDC Motorsports team will next compete in Rounds Three and Four of the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, held May 23-24 at Lime Rock Park, in conjunction with the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup and the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge.
